Benjamin Levy

While the papers say he’s based out of San Francisco—a Berkeley grad, no less—choreographer Benjamin Levy’s roots as a Persian Jew whose parents fled Iran during the revolution don’t make him your average soak-up-the-sun Californian. His work, which bridges the gap between muscularity and intellect, has landed him in the national spotlight during the last five years. And he has parlayed that success by keeping his troupe, LevyDance, in the bright lights of the Kennedy Center, the American Dance Festival and Joyce SoHo.
