Jill Magid wants to cozy up to society’s prickly pears. That’s why she’s working with the police, secret services, CCTV and forensic identification experts to find the “softness and intimacy of their technologies.” Magid has made love letters of “Subject Access Request Forms,” volunteered to be searched by the NYPD and strapped a surveillance camera to a high-heeled shoe to provide a unique view of the cityscape and, ahem, the underside of her skirt. Most notoriously, in “Auto Portrait Pending,” she’s committed her future cremated remains to the creation of a one-carat diamond, to be sold to one special beneficiary.
