South Florida chef Michelle Bernstein’s original passion was ballet. Food was “the enemy.” Now food is her BFF. The Latina became a hot commodity when she was exec chef at the Mandarin Oriental’s upscale Azul restaurant, but now she’s her own top chef at the eponymous Michy’s in Miami’s Design District. The new-American- meets-Latin American and European spot is perpetually packed. As in, make reservations, stat. Bernstein was the host of Food Network’s Melting Pot; couch potatoes may also remember her appearance on Top Chef and from the episode of Iron Chef that showed her smacking down Bobby Flay.
