A hardcore vegetarian as a teen, Sasha Wizansky’s life changed at age 20 when she took her first bite of Thai chicken himmaparn served in a half-pineapple with cashews. The San Franciscan has been an omnivore since and, last year, her love for meat made it into print. The 34-year-old went from freelance graphic design to publishing after launching the thinking carnivore’s quarterly, Meatpaper. A cult following has manifested. “Meat can really rile up a group,” she says, “for personal, environmental and political reasons. I started Meatpaper to ask the question, ‘What is it about meat that inspires such intense reactions?’” Issue #5 hit newsstands this past September.
