Taylor Krauss

If David Blaine had looked across the street from his tank while he was holding his breath underwater to break a world record two years ago, he would have seen Taylor Krauss submerged in his own tank, trying to call attention to the crisis in the Sudan. Though Krauss was arrested that day, he was soon back in Kigali, Rwanda, where he’s spent much of the last four years spearheading Voices of Rwanda, a non-profit dedicated to recording and preserving the testimony of eyewitnesses to the 1994 genocide in that country. Today, the 28-year-old Phoenix native’s Voices of Rwanda is doing for the memory of the Rwandan genocide what the Shoah Foundation has done for the memory of another genocidal episode you might have heard of.
