Morgan Geist

Morgan Geist listened to disco when it was very uncool to listen to disco. And now that disco fever is running rampant again, he’s one of its apostles. The New Jersey-born remixer and producer has always ministered to the oft-neglected emotive side of techno, merging cold-blooded beats with the awkward humanity of ’60s and ’70s dance music. While still a student at Oberlin College, Geist started his own record label, Environ Labels, inspired by diverse brands of Midwestern techno. More than a decade later, he’s still running Environ—some artists on his roster include Kelly Polar and Daniel Wang—and is half of the duo Metro Area with fellow boogie-techno enthusiast, Darshan Jesrani.
