Pepi Ginsberg recorded her latest album, Red, in a makeshift recording studio, which is a step up from where her last album was allegedly recorded: The eccentric singer/ songwriter made Sometime Momma/Sometime Babe in her Brooklyn apartment bathtub. Channeling Nashville Skyline-era Dylan, Mitchell and Baez, her freak-folk is unpredictable, feathery and, of course, disarmingly weird—that dramatic, unabashed voice alone warrants attention. Recently signed to Philly’s label-to-reckon-with, Park The Van, Ginsburg’s prolific output communicates a peculiar mix of heartbreak and joy.
