Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the Future (But Were Afraid to Ask)
Illustration by Adrià Fruitós Text by Mary BlockCalling someone a prophet should be a great compliment, but throughout history prophets have been notorious downers. Think of Jeremiah foretelling the destruction of Israel and Judah, Ezekiel predicting the downfall of Jerusalem, or Isaiah telling the Israelites that if they did not get their act together the land of Israel would be completely laid to waste. Let’s put it this way, with their constant talk of famine, disease and destruction, these are not guys you’d want to drink a Corona with at your sacrificial lamb barbeque. Heeb recently sat down with four modern-day prophets—specializing in everything from the World Wide Web to the fearsome Mayan Gods — hoping that their outlook on the future would be different from that of there predecessors. It wasn’t. And the stakes are only greater today. If you think the Ten Plagues were bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Daniel Pinchbeck - "I think it’s just going to be worse and worse. We could see disruption of energy supplies, leading to mass starvation. We might see nuclear bombs go off, leading to total meltdown and disaster…”
Howard Bloom – "We’re overdue for the next big extinction."
Mitchell Joachim – "Do you know what one million more trees will do to carbon loading in the atmosphere? Nothing."
Douglas Rushkoff - “Big business and big media worked for ways to make the Internet less about creation and more about passivity, consumption, and disconnection"

Where does this article mention Geddy?
Nice Jewish Canadian he is, along with Lips and Robb from Anvil and Lennie Cohen, but what does this have to do with the article?
I really need another drink….I can see if I can get a bulls eye on the 8X10 glossy of Mel Gibson duck taped to my dartboard.
