Rain Dances

“I’m black and a Jew—I swear I could spend years in therapy,” Rain Pryor says. “But what’s the point? I’d rather write about my life and perform it.”

Pryor, the daughter of legendary comic Richard Pryor, exorcises her demons in her new solo show, Fried Chicken & Latkes. The cabaret–style performance, which she wrote, produced and directed, is a wry and honest look at her oddball—and often painful—childhood experiences: growing up the daughter of a drug–addled superstar, living on welfare in Beverly Hills, suffering torment in Hebrew school because she looked different and ultimately coming to terms with her biracial identity.
