He may be of Jewish descent but he’s about as Jewish as Zac Efron…Vogel was a practicing Jew but Bell converted to Christianity and was, by definition, no longer Jewish. Still, that’s a lot closer to a Jewish Prime Minister than Australia is ever likely to get…I miss Helen Clark :(

“He may be of Jewish descent but he’s about as Jewish as Zac Efron”
Was that supposed to be an ironic statement of some sort? You do know that Zac Efron is Jewish? His names ARE “Zac” and “Efron” for goodness sake, not “Chris O’Reilly”! It’s about as Jewish a name as it gets (well, close).
Or do you mean that they’re both non-practicing Jews?
Either way, Bell was NOT “by definition not Jewish”. By the traditional Orthodox definition, anyone who is Jewish through the maternal line remains Jewish even if they convert away. So, yes, Vogel, Bell, and Key are all Jewish. It’s absurd to consider O’Bama “African American” but in the same universe John Key is somehow not Jewish.

Oh, and Oscar Goodman will never be president. Not even a candidate.
Eric Cantor (Republican and Jewish) could definitely run in 2012, though. There are a few more Jewish Republicans who could run, Linda Lingle, Norm Coleman (if he beats Franken), George Allen, Steve Poizner. But Cantor is the more popular one, and he could be on the Republican ticket somewhere in the 2010s. Charlie Crist (Gov. of Florida) is marrying his Jewish fiance this month so if he wins that could be the first Jewish first lady.
In fact, I would guess the first person of Jewish heritage actually elected as President or Vice President will be a Republican (Barry Goldwater was the first person of Jewish ancestry on a national major party ticket, and that was in 1964, so Republicans do have dibs on that kind of thing, despite what this website or Sarah Silverman would have you believe).
