Mildly Liking Leah
Last night, Hallmark brought to you its best effort at a modern Jewish love story. Loving Leah stars Lauren Ambrose, of Six Feet Under, who plays an Orthodox Jew forced to marry her dead husband’s brother, played by Adam Kaufman. The twist is that he lives on the other side of the Jewish tracks, pepperoni and all. The coupling starts badly but soon the two realize they have more in common than they imagined. Heeb comeback girl, Natasha Lyonne plays Ambrose’s sister, Esther, in a role that’s not far from her Orthodox roots. Ricki Lake portrays a zesty reform Rabbi while Susie Essman and Mercedes Ruehl round out the cast as the guilt-inducing, long-suffering matriarchs. Apparently, the DVD will be available in March.
