Steve Vincent: The Heeb Interview

Steve Vincent spends his days doing everything he can to keep afloat Angry Drunk Graphics, his underground comic publishing house that, lately, has been getting some flack from the comic book community.

A few months back he put out one of the most controversial and crass comics in recent memory. Fucky the Bear might seem like nothing more than hostile trash, but the fact that it exists is wonderful. The pocket-sized comic follows the misadventures of a seemingly adorable creature who is in actuality a butt-fucking government weapon. Literally.

Vincent took time to discuss his struggles after publishing a comic book about this crazed tushy-shtupping teddy.

How badly was Fucky the Bear received at NY Comic-Con last year?

My books were refused entry into the country for being

‘questionable’ so we had nothing to sell. That’s what I get for writing a book about an ass-raping bear with a talking penis. I’ve been pretty successful with my other comic series Spaztic Colon, but, yeah, Fucky pretty much sank. As far as I know, you are the first magazine to write about it. The rest of them won’t touch it. I didn’t think it was that big of a deal considering the popularity of comics about murder (Sin City, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac), and, given the choice, I would much rather be ass-raped than murdered.

Did you end up holding back on Fucky? I mean, was there even crazier material you left out?

I left a lot of shit out because I am a crappy artist and couldn’t draw the scenes the way I wanted to.

So because Fucky tanked, are we not to anticipate a return of the furry tushy-shtupper?

I think it is going to sit on the shelf. It was a one-off comic mostly made from comics that I submitted to people who asked me to submit stuff for their mags. I tried to make it too fucked-up for them to print it in their supposedly edgy zines. For the most part it was.

So basically they didn’t know what they were asking for?

People don’t know what edgy even is anymore. It’s, like, okay to be crazy and edgy as long as you fall within the guidelines. Compared to Mike Diana’s stuff, Fucky the Bear is like a Disney comic, and these pussies found it too offensive to include in their zines. It doesn’t give me much hope for the future.

I’m pissed this is getting shelved. I was with Steve at Comic Con when word came in that these books were being held because of their content. With everything else wrong in this country/world, a comic book rated for a mature audience is an issue? If parents want to see something graphic, they should read their kid’s sext messages
