Bernie Madoff Goes Green

Ponzi schemer and dream smasher Bernie Madoff might be feeling sad that he ruined his wife Ruth’s life, but at least he can gain some comfort that he’s new home meets with the U.S. Green Building Council’s standards for sustainable design. Butner Federal Prison features bicycle storage, alternative fuel refueling stations, specified parking for alternative transportation, reduced site disturbance, storm water management and an exterior designed to reduce the heat island effect. Though Madoff requested to spend the rest of his life at FCI Otisville, close to New York, the judge must have recognized that the man is essentially a walking compost pile and sent him where he belongs.
