Roseanne is Sick of Being Misunderstood
Roseanne answers her critics with aplomb on Roseanneworld.com.
Rock on Sister! Like Oliver, I also adore Roseanne Barr and I hope one day I can get my own Poloraid taken with her.Hitler thought he was being really manly "cleaning Germany up" by burning people in ovens. I was making fun of him, not his victims. My caricature of him very aptly imitates the "man with a godly mission" pose that he struck in all the early photographs taken of him. I portray him being very proud of his burnt cookies, because in his last words, he was proudly congratulating himself for killing so many Jews, and encouraged the German people to carry on his mission against the "International Jew." The guy actually thought that killing jews was a good thing! The language that he used is still being used by many world leaders to this day. He killed my whole family, it is true, but he is also dead, and I ,a Jewish woman am still alive to make fun of him, and I will continue to make fun of the little runt for the rest of my life! He, and his ideas need to be laughed at even more these days, picked apart and analyzed up and down, as there are more and more people denying his crimes, and more and more despots trying to copy them.

Laughed at? I think not. Not a laughable matter ever. Disgusted and sickened by is more appropriate. All this comes off like is a disgruntled Jewish lady who enjoys upsetting Jewish people, who herself doesn’t like most Jewish people or Israel. Not funny, not a laughing matter. There are other ways to make a point of about a creep like that – Dress him up in satan outfits, little dick and Eva’s shit on his face.

I hardly think you’re qualified to speak on behalf of Jewish people (I’m Jewish and I’m not offended…sounds like an awesome bumper sticker)...nor are you in a position to declare that Roseanne doesn’t like “...most Jewish people or Israel”. A Jew criticising the actions of the Israeli Government doesn’t equate to being anti-Israel OR anti-semitic…I don’t like the current leadership of Israel either…it doesn’t mean I’m an anti-zionist or an anti-semite.
Still, what better way to express your outrage and moral indignation by making another post on the website of the publication that displayed it…oooo…cunning! You sure showed them!

Just out of curiosity, what would Heeb find too offensive to publish?
08.02.09 at 10:08 pm
The G. W. Bush memoirs?
08.02.09 at 11:08 pm
The Jewish Week op-ed page?

Actually now that I’m thinking about it putting restrictions on what is appropriate (and funny) has come up before. Does the Inquisition, Stalinist Russia, and Nazi Germany ring a bell?

Seriously. Where does Heeb draw the line? Anywhere?

People (and publications) “draw” their own “lines” all the time. I don’t even understand the question.
Why don’t you ask the real question? Okay, I’ll do it for you.
How is it possible that Heeb looks at the world so differently than I do, and how do I then proceed reconciling my own existence in light of this discrepancy?
Well, bridgham, now THAT is a good question, if I do say so myself. I would advise you to take two adderalls, drink plenty of water, and watch as all the static just clears before your eyes.

We all set boundaries regarding what is acceptable, whether it’s a person or a publication. I never suggested that Heeb pander to its critics. I only asked what its editors would find too objectionable (to themselves) for publication. Every publication has editorial standards regarding content, so what are Heeb’s? Like I said, I’m just curious.
Jewish culture has survived because there have always been rituals, beliefs and practices that we don’t alter for anybody. If we want to take a shit on ourselves, it’s probably best for us to do it in private. As far as the pics in the Roseanne piece go, it’s hard for me to see much self-respect there, or in any number of things she’s done in public.

Fair point, perhaps, re keeping it within the ‘family’.
Though one could argue the same for the New Yorker ‘Obama as Terrorist’ cover.
One can’t always modify things so that the lowest common denominator wont take them the wrong way.
These photos wont make anyone who isn’t already anti-semitic turn…or vice versa.
I can certainly understand why people would find them offensive, they are offensive…but then I can’t imagine that people genuinely find them out of context or habit for a magazine that has previously run a competition for fake holocaust memoirs.
It’s like turning on the Naked News and complaining when you see a few titties.

1) This is not about ritual nor theological belief and practice. Having said that, for the record…
2) We have, in fact, absolutely altered our rituals, beliefs and practices for the sake of accommodating a variety of factors, including others. For instance, Ashkenazi Jews stopped polygamy in part to stop offending their Christian neighbors who believed such a practice was unacceptable.
As far as the pics in the Roseanne piece go, it’s hard for me to see much self-respect there, or in any number of things she’s done in public.
Well, okay…self-respect probably wasn’t the overriding goal. But you do realize the magazine in question, right? I mean, it’s not exactly Commentary.
I only asked what its editors would find too objectionable (to themselves) for publication.
You really can’t think of anything worse even in the media? How about when Israel is condemned in all sorts of vicious exhortations while the need to defend herself is ignored? In the Jewish media, how about when a rabbi wrote an op-ed that genuinely attempted to defend Madoff’s character compared to a hero of an airline pilot who he espoused contempt for because he was ardently secular? How about that the NY Jewish Week in its tag line pretends to be independent when the majority of its circulation is owned by the NY-UJA? http://www.thejewishweek.com/about/c12/About_Jewish_Week.html
How about when a NJ Jewish newspaper caved to pressure not to expose a rabbi who was systematically molesting and abusing teens — for decades? How about when Federation Jewish newspapers run press releases and pretend they are unbiased stories?
To me, these “editorial guidelines” are far more offensive. because there is real damage being done to our community from such mentalities and lies.
I see the damage in those. Tangible and incontrovertible damage. But with this photo spread, I hear a lot of condemnation, but the concern over the actual fears are quite vague. Maybe I’m missing something? It’s just…at the end of the day, she’s just baking cookies…you know?

Editorial guidelines are a funny thing, offensive is (arguably) a subjective term. I don’t think it is, however, unreasonable to ask exactly at what stage Heeb would draw the line…if ever.
Presumably everyone’s tolerance has its breaking point, I think Brigham is simply wondering what that would be for Heeb.
Of course, the easy answer is “We’ll know when we see it”.
I have spoken.
I wish she were my Granny :P

Well Puck, I am Jewish and grew up in the 60s. I fixed the picture to make it satirical. Roseanne fucked up. And she is a Jewish anti-Semite. She just opens her big mouth and its obvious. (I’ve also had personal encounters on her long forgotten blog) Mean-spirited narcissistic Jewish Jew hater.

Roseanne is sick of being misunderstood?
