Introducing Guest Blogger… Stuff Hipsters Hate

One of the joys of my life is coming across individuals who share my disdain for others, so it truly made my day when I discovered the blog, Stuff Hipsters Hate. Here’s one of my favorite posts:

Knowing Their Bank Balance

Jesus, Lord, God, Almighty (whom I totally don’t fucking believe in) don’t let me see my balance. I’m just gonna blindly punch in my code and wait for the sweet whooshing of those two twenties coming down the chute. Fuck, fuck, fuck—just tell me when it’s over. I’m gonna push some buttons. Is the screen clear? Am I good? Fuck, I’m hyperventilating. All clear? Sweet. Let’s get wasted.

Last night I caught up with SHH over drinks—here’s what I remember.

What’s your definition of a hipster?

It’s not easy to define. It’s more of a continuum, and the blog represents the extreme. I actually get e-mails from people saying, ‘I do this, does this make me a hipster?’ The way I see it, you’re probably not a hipster, unless you’re a big enough tool to call yourself one.

So are you a hipster?

See above.

What’s the difference between scenester and hipster?

They’re basically the same thing—but ‘scenester’ is a newer term. I would say they fall more within the category of ‘out-right poseur.’ Like, they shop at American Apparel and have super angular haircuts. A hipster tends to be more rough and tumble—see the entire The New York Times Sunday Styles section.

What makes your blog different from all other hipster blogs (Look at this Fucking Hipster, etc)?

Well, I like to think I’m not a douche bag. My posts are not blanket judgments—they’re based in fact. If I write about the plethora of pot bellies in Williamsburg, I don’t see it as a trend. Instead, I see a bunch of 26-year-olds whose metabolisms have finally caught up with them after all that PBR. These aren’t things I just noticed while spending a half hour in [Brooklyn’s] McCarren Park, but things that I see in my friends, exes and, sometimes, sadly, myself. I recognize that being part of this scene is probably a phase, but I’m embracing it to a certain extent. God, I sound like a tool.

Stuff Hipsters Hate will be blogging for Heeb on Wednesdays.
