Sibling Comedians Eliot and Ilana Glazer Celebrate at Upright Citizens Brigade

Sibling duo Eliot and Ilana Glazer have been writing, producing and performing comedy in New York since 2006. They make the funnies on stage, screen and all around the Big Apple (but only below 14th Street). Their first and longest-running production, High School Talent Show, will celebrate its two-year anniversary at its original home, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre tonight, Friday, November 20 at 8 p.m. Despite the obvious goals of achieving fame and, more importantly, fortune, they also hope to pave the way for Jews in comedy. We asked the pair to interview each other about the upcoming event and here’s the result.

Ilana: So were you ‘cool’ in high school? Is that why we chose the setting for our show? Because you were really, really cool?

Eliot: No, I was less ‘cool’ and more ‘gay’: soul patch, pajama pants, frosted tips . . . Were you? Cool?

Ilana: I was in an anti-drug club called The Positive Edge. Until I started smoking pot. Your turn. Ask me a question.

Eliot: How was your day?

Ilana: About the show.

Eliot: Oh. How does High School Talent Show play out? Is it like High School Musical?

Ilana: Ew, no way. It’s just what it sounds like. It’s like watching a high school talent show – complete with a douchey teacher host, a guy does stilts, we’ve had dramatic scenes, mimes, clowns and once a girl masturbated a bible. It’s a variety sketch show, and we make it brand new every month, so if you’ve seen it before, you can always go to the next one. Always. And Forever.

Eliot: At the Winter Garden Theatre.

Ilana: Exactly. What?

Eliot: Your turn. Ask me now.

Ilana: Okay. So when and where is it again?

Eliot: It’s the High School Talent Show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre tonight, Friday, November 20th at 8pm.

Ilana: What is the address of that venue?

Eliot: Oh, 307 W. 26th Street. Do you know who’s gonna be in the show?

Ilana: Of course, we’ve got the best and brightest stars of the alternative comedy universe: Kurt Braunohler! Andrea Rosen! Gabe Liedman! Matt McCarthy! Katina Corrao! And more! Not only will these folks give you a case of the LOLs, but you might even recognize some of them from the teevee.

Eliot: Wow, let’s make it happen.

Together: Let’s make ‘em laugh. ::fist bump::
