Supporting Israel Suddenly Has New Meaning
Who knew one month ago when England were 1-0 up against Russia, that the key to their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2008 would ultimately lie in the hands of Israel. Yep, the country that birthed soccer greats such as George Best, Bobby Charlton and David Beckham are now relying on the skills of well, Dedi Ben Dayan and Avi Strool to see them through to the next stages.
That’s right, the only way England can qualify to the next stages is if Israel beat the mighty Russians in Tel-Aviv tomorrow, which has quite comically resulted in the whole of England showing their support for the Israeli underdogs. One English bookmaker has gone so far as to offer a Mercedes to the first Israeli player who scores.
A Mercedes, huh? Maybe a Cadillac would be a better incentive.
