I understand that FICO 08 will weigh the account balances more heavily than the previous FICO versions. It use to be a 30% weight – but now it is more.

Did you know that if you buy a house between Jan1 2009 and Nov 30th 2009 the government will give you up to $8,000 or 10% of the purchase price – whichever is less. The best thing is you don’t have to wait to get your money. Once you buy the house you simply file an amended 2008 1040 and include your credit on line 69 and you will get your money right away!

Another element to watch out for is the amount of utilization you have on your existing accounts. The old adage that banks only lend money to people who don’ t need it is pretty much true. Opinions vary, but having your total utilization (total debt divided by the total of your credit lines) should generally be less than 50%. Utilization on individual accounts should typically be less than 70%. We’re carrying a large 0% balance transfer on one of my wife’s accounts that I am an authorized user on.
