I was a bit surprised when I learned that Lapo Elkann (heir to the Fiat Throne) was set to be honored at Chabad Lubavitch of Midtown Manhattan’s Twelfth Annual Dinner. But then again, I guess once you’ve endured a gnarly cocaine overdose after partying with Italian transsexuals, anything’s possible. The event went down last Wednesday at Cipriani Midtown, but Elkann was a no-show and as of last Wednesday night, neither co-honoree Brett Ratner nor dinner chairman Nat Rothschild had any idea what had happened to him.

Here’s to the hope that Elkann hasn’t found a new use for his tefillin.
