Jewdar has just returned from a week in the Heartland, where Americans of all races, ages and genders are swooning over the bronzed icon who inspires them to think of better days and of an America that they can believe in.

We speak, of course, of the “bronze Fonz,” a recently erected statue of NJB Henry Winkler’s iconic character that’s helping to beautify the riverfront of Milwaukee, hometown to both Fonzie and America’s favorite Jew-obsessed entertainment writer (do we really have to spell this one out?).

Although Arthur Fonzarelli always seemed to be following in the long Hollywood tradition of Jews playing Italians, it was a little suspicious that when he moved into the apartment over the Cunningham’s garage, his old apartment was taken over by his “Grandma Nussbaum.” Now, some might argue that, Milwaukee being Milwaukee, “Nussbaum” might just be German, but then who taught the Fonz how to dance the kazatski?

Certainly, Happy Days’ cast was about as Jewish as could be—not only Fonzie, but Ralph, Potsie and even Mr. C (that’s right, Father Dowling himself) were MOTs. As for Fonzie, while we admit our argument that he’s one of the Chosen could certainly be stronger, we also think that Grandma Nussbaum has some serious ’splainin’ to do.
