First came the roomers that GOP VP pick Sarah Palin was plagiarizing from Desperate Housewives by passing off her unwed teenage daughter Bristol’s April-born baby as her own. Then came the announcement from the Palin camp that that couldn’t be true, because Bristol is currently five months pregnant. 

We don’t feel too much schadenfreude at the life-altering indiscretions of a teenage girl, and presume that the family values crowd will be able to overlook this as well as they can McCain’s own dismal record of marital infidelity. But we are intrigued by the fact that the baby daddy is named “Levi.” Now, we know that’s a biblical name, and in the circles the Palins doubtlessly move in, more likely to be held by some kind of evangelical than some kind of evanjewlical, but until we get confirmation, forget about Obama—Sarah Palin is tha candidate who’s taught us how to hope again.
