Galliano has an Antisemitic Sheen

Today Jewdar would like to discuss two-and-a-half schmendricks.

Okay, so we exaggerated a bit — it’s really just two. First of all, over in France (the land that brought us the Dreyfus Affair–that’s right, we went there), daring Dior Designer, John Galliano, was suspended after making antisemitic remarks (and anti-Asian, but who cares about that–apparently, not the headline writer at The Guardian). Apparently, Galliano was at a bar where he espied a Jewess and her Asian boyfriend, reportedly leading him to declare:

“Dirty Jewish face, you should be dead” and “Fucking Asian bastard, I will kill you”

EXTRA:  Video footage has surfaced showing Galliano on a different occasion in the same–located in the historically Jewish Marais district–telling patrons “I love Hitler” and that their parents and grandparents should have been gassed.

He was immediately suspended by Christian Dior’s Jewish boss, Sidney Toledano. In what must have been particularly galling for Galliano, his suspension violated a cardinal rule of fashion–he wasn’t original, since the day before, Charlie Sheen was suspended from Two and A Half Men for his own antisemitically-themed comments.

For those who weren’t paying attention, in a radio interview last Thursday, Sheen, ranting fairly incoherently, said of his baleboss, Chuck Lorre (pictured with Sheen),

“I’m tired of  being told ‘You can’t talk about that, you can’t talk about that.’ Bull S-H-I-T. There’s something this side of deplorable that a certain Chaim Levine — yeah, that’s Chuck’s real name — mistook this rock star for his own selfish exit strategy, bro. Check it, Alex: I embarrassed him in front of his children and the world by healing at a pace that his unevolved mind cannot process. Last I checked, Chaim, I spent close to the last decade effortlessly and magically converting your tin cans into pure gold. And the gratitude I get is this charlatan chose not to do his job, which is to write. Clearly someone who believes he’s above the law.”

Now granted, it’s not terribly coherent, and the “Chaim Levine” comment isn’t terribly hostile, but all in all, not the best path for Sheen to have gone down. End result, Two and a Half Men has been shut down (which is fine with us, although we still have some residual Pretty in Pink affection for Jon Cryer), costing Sheen–whose liquor bill must be astronomical–millions of shekels, as well as perhaps putting the kibosh on an appearance in Major League 3.

On the other hand, perhaps this is a great opportunity for Sheen–forget about Major League 3, we smell a Charlie Sheen/Mel Gibson (in the Chris Tucker role) team-up in Money Talks 2.

What do you think?

Not one part of that quote can be anti-semitic since Charles Michael Levine is not a descendent of Shem and a member or the semitic peoples

Perhaps you should post your message to 1870’s when Wilhelm Marr coined the term antisemitism to refer to specifically to a new kind of prejudice against the primarily Ashkenazi Jews in Germany.

After that, you might want to look at some of the more recent genealogical studies that confirm the genetic link between Ashkenazim and Mizrachim, and Jews and Middle Eastern population in general.

But hey, why let history, etymology and genetics ruin an otherwise lovely uninformed rant?

It’s bizarre that a flamboyant homosexual like Galliano would publicly declare his love for Hitler. I think the whole thing a piece of rather sick performance art. But France has nothing to do with it, much as we all love to stick it to the French, since Galiano is a Gibraltar-born Brit.
